The Best Afternoon Tea In London To Impress Your Friends

Nestled in the affluent London borough of Kensington and Chelsea, you will find the Milestone Hotel & Residences. This 5-star boutique hotel not only guarantees an amazing stay in Central London but also offers incredible Afternoon Tea for its hotel guests and visitors alike. This quintessentially British hotel boasts sophistication, style and grace conveniently located adjacent to Hyde Park.

This Afternoon Tea is perfect for tourists visiting the UK for the first time, or even locals hoping to commemorate a special occasion. We personally had family visiting from Canada that we were looking to impress – and this Afternoon Tea at The Milestone Hotel & Residences did exactly that.

1. The Milestone Hotel: First Impressions

From the outside, The Milestone Hotel & Residences happens to look like any other hotel in London. However, the magic happens when you walk inside…

Upon arrival, we were met by a very friendly doorman and the reception staff were eager to assist us and find our booking reservation. We were then led to the Park Lounge where the Afternoon Tea takes place. Here our first impression was ‘WOW’ + an audible gasp. We found ourselves in a lounge that looked like it was constructed in 1970’s Britain with velvet finishings on the furnishings, intriguing paintings and a very impressive bookshelf. We were truly in awe of the interior.

2. How Much Does Afternoon Tea At The Milestone Hotel Cost?

The price for Afternoon Tea at the Milestone Hotel & Residences varies depending on which type of Afternoon Tea you would like. We opted for the Traditional Afternoon Tea which featured three tiers of thoughtfully curated sandwiches, pastries, cakes, scones and of course – a fine-leaf tea of our choice. This cost us £85pp (updated Aug 2024) and this is the most cost effective option available.

Other Afternoon Tea options include a Champagne Afternoon Tea for just £98pp, a Royal Afternoon Tea for £200 for two people and many more. You can find all the options on their menu list here.

Please note that unlike other Afternoon Tea’s, the options at the Milestone are non-refillable. This means that once your sandwiches and cakes are finished, they will not be replenished. However, the teas are bottomless so feel free to drink to your heart’s content!

3. Afternoon Tea At The Milestone Hotel: What To Expect

We were seated by our very attentive and charismatic waitress who kindly explained how the Afternoon Tea at The Milestone works. As we had already opted for the Traditional Afternoon Tea which comes as a set, all we had to do was choose which flavour tea we wanted. We were given a very extensive list of fine-leaf teas with combinations I had never previously heard of!

We opted for the Imperial Chocolate which really did have the most delicious chocolatey notes!

Now on to the star of the show – the Afternoon Tea. We were informed that the tiered masterpiece of sandwiches, cakes and tartlets would come out first and then once we had finished this, they would bring out our freshly baked scones that come straight from the oven. They do this so that the scones do not get cold whilst you’re indulging in the sweet and savoury treats. We thought was a brilliant idea!

Please bear in mind that your booking is only valid for 90 minutes before they kindly ask for your table back.

4. Afternoon Tea At The Milestone Hotel: What We Ate

What a spread right?! Starting from the bottom left to right, we had a range of sandwiches including flavours such as cucumber and cream cheese, ham and mustard mayonnaise, smoked salmon with lemon crème fraiche, tomato and cheddar, and finally a chicken and mayonnaise sandwich coated with almonds.

These sandwiches were nothing short of delicious. Even some of the simpler ingredient combinations wowed us. Our favourite was definitely the chicken and mayonnaise. This was not your regular sandwich. The chicken was well-flavoured and the almonds left us with a deliciously nutty aftertaste. The only sandwich we did not eat was the tomato and cheddar as neither of us eat cheese. Subsequently, our waitress asked us if we would like to replace this with one of our favourites instead, which we thought was a very kind gesture and a nice touch. Of course, we opted for the Chicken and Mayo.

Working up to the middle tier, we embarked on the sweeter side of life. Here we have a mango and coconut slice and a pistachio & raspberry choux bun. Both of which just melted in our mouths. Finally, on the top tier, we had a coconut & pineapple macaron, a baked vanilla cheesecake, and an interestingly delicious Apple Tartlet. Everything here was delectable and there was not a single sweet treat that we did not enjoy.

By this point, we were stuffed and so satisfied that we had actually forgotten about the scones! These freshly baked plain scones and raisin scones with Cornish clotted cream & homemade strawberry preserve came out perfectly warm and ready to eat. The strawberry jam tasted fresh and not too sweet and the clotted cream was easily some of the best we’ve ever had – a perfect end to a fantastic meal!

(Remember – it’s cream first and then jam ALWAYS!!)

This was honestly a faultless Afternoon Tea at The Milestone Hotel & Residences. We will definitely be indulging in this Afternoon Tea again and we highly recommend that you do the same.
